Model 4023 is a compact HD digital video recorder (DVR) designed for embedded OEM applications. It captures and records analog HD video (AHD, HD-TVI or HD-CVI) and stereo audio to USB storage media and can capture JPEG images on-the-fly without interrupting stream recording. Two incremental encoder interfaces allow position information to be overlaid directly onto the video. It provides both DVI and composite NTSC/PAL outputs to allow live/recorded video and JPEG snapshots to be displayed on an external HD or SD monitor. Date and time are maintained by a real-time clock with battery backup. To implement a complete embedded DVR simply connect power, a keypad or keyboard and a USB storage device.
Stream formats
The board captures AHD, HD-TVI or HD-CVI video and compresses it to high-profile H.264. Audio from the external microphone or stereo line inputs is digitized and compressed using AAC encoding. The compressed A/V streams are multiplexed and recorded as MP4 files on a user-supplied USB storage device, with file names automatically generated by the real-time clock. Bit rates can be tailored to match application requirements and storage capacity.
User interface
The DVR user interface consists of an external keypad or keyboard working in conjunction with the board's flexible on-screen menu system. The keypad connector will directly interface to your own custom keypad. Each connector pin can be routed directly to any keypad switch and configured to match your keypad's control scheme. If preferred, a standard USB keyboard can be plugged into any USB port and used to control the DVR and also access special functions.
Incremental encoders
Encoder counts are reliably tracked by the incremental encoder interfaces and are automatically scaled to user-configurable distance units such as meters or feet.
Video overlay
The text overlay engine can place the current date, time and incremental encoder positions anywhere in the video frame. The date, time and position text are automatically updated every video frame.
USB storage
An external USB storage device is required for DVR operation. If desired, a second USB storage device may also be connected and the 4023 will simultaneously record to both devices. A common application for this is recording to a removable device while creating an archival copy on a non-removable device. USB connectors are located on both sides of the board to facilitate connection to both removable and embedded storage devices.
